What kind of shoes do I need?
The shoes are very important for a dancer. At the
beginning you can even bring sneakers, but soon you will realize that they will
stick to the floor and make it difficult for you to turn and spin properly. So
will any rubber-sole shoes.
As the steps get more complex and require more skill,
you will soon realize that you need better shoes. Plastic soles are also not ideal
- they allow you to spin easier but are too slippery. The best shoes have suede
soles. Leather soles are also good. You can have suede soles put on the soles
of your most comfortable shoes. Some more advanced dancers have special dance
shoes - pumps for standard dances and opened-toed shoes for Latin dances (lady's
shoes). Those shoes cost between $130-$160 and you can choose and order them from
many catalogues available at our Studio.
Ladies favor shoes with 1-3 inch heels. Platform shoes
and sandals are not good for dancing. They are too heavy, the soles are too thick
and don't bend or they fall off. It is hard to concentrate on dancing and try
to keep your shoes on!! Some ladies wear character shoes and enjoy them a lot!
So, basically wear whatever feels comfortable but give yourself the best chance
to dance and learn well and safe!
Please, try not to wear the same shoes
you have worn outside, or if you must - just wipe them really
well. The sand and dirt will make the floor more slippery therefore
dangerous and can damage our beautiful hardwood floor.

What should I wear?
To group classes and private lessons you can wear
anything you feel comfortable in. Jeans, T-shirts, skirts, leggings are all right.
Wear something that won't restrict your
movements but not too loose so the instructor can see if your
body is moving correctly. Studio Dance Parties are semiformal
or formal. Sometimes we have theme dances like Halloween, Masquerade
Ball etc. where you can wear costumes as well. Practice Dances
are casual.

Do I need a partner?
No, you don't need a partner. If you have a partner,
bring one. People often come by themselves and find partners here, sometimes with
the assistance from the instructor.
You don't need a partner all through
the class. We teach steps separate to ladies and men and we
make sure one knows her/his steps well before joining in with
the partner. Dancing with different partners helps you to dance
better. Don't be afraid to ask more experienced students to
dance. They are very willing to help and encourage beginner
dancers.

How soon will I feel comfortable on the dance floor?
At our Pre-Bronze classes you learn basics of 3 Latin
and 3 Standard dances. From this easy start you can continue learning at the Bronze,
Silver and finally Gold level.
Every Friday after Pre-Bronze class
we hold Practice Dances from 9 PM till midnight. At those Practice
Dances there is a wide range of skill level among the dancers.
Some students have been dancing for several years, some only
few weeks. You can see that some dancers are moving more comfortably
on the dance floor than others. The only secret is practice.
The more you dance, the more confident you will feel dancing
and the more you will enjoy it! Don't be afraid to ask more
experienced dancers for a dance. Dancing is a social hobby and
those good dancers are thrilled to help and welcome new faces
on the dance floor. As they say "the more, the merrier.." You
can also learn a lot from watching others that are better than
you. Once more…. Practice, practice, practice and that's what
the Friday Practice Dances are designed for.
