Ted Motyka's Dance Studio is somewhat of a hidden gem. Go around the front of the building, through the parking lot and almost into an alleyway, and you'll find yourself in front of a bright pink door. Stepping inside brings you into a world that is decidely more glamourous. Wood panelled flooring, vaulted ceilings, marble walls. You can easily imagine the place coming to life during evening balls with fancily dressed guests whirling around the dance floor or shining under the spotlight of stars (as it did when Richard Gere came into town). However, the real gems to uncover are the instructors. Ted and Margaret are friendly, funny and engaging. It won't take long until you become hooked and you find that it's you spinning under the dimmed lights, as you dance across the ballroom floor at one of the studio's regular dance parties.

Ted Motyka's Dance Studio is great for beginners. The drop-in format means you can start whenever you want. When you go, you won't feel alone, because enough new comers drop in on a regular basis that you can always feel comfortably hidden in a group of people at the same level as you. As you realize how fun it is and keep coming back, the feeling of anonymity won't last long. The Dance Studio provides a great atmosphere, from the helpful and approachable instructors to the friendly (and forgiving when acting as your dance partner) people who attend.

My husband and I were finally able to visit
your dance studio on Friday after receiving your newsletters
for almost a year now. We LOVED it!!! AND we will be back
EVERY Friday from now on. Although we were a little shy as
we are not very well versed in ANY dances, you made us feel
very comfortable and we stayed as long as we could after,
practicing and watching. Thank you for the great communication,
thank you for the great studio, and thank you for making us
feel so welcome and comfortable.

Taking up ballroom dancing is like planting a tree...
You think you should have started twenty years ago, so that
you could have enjoyed it all this time.
Actually, the next best time to start is NOW. Twenty years
from today we will look back and say it is the
best thing we ever did. We love it and find it is the highlight
of our week.

I am taking dancing lessons for a special reason. This past
summer I spent in Germany going to school. Here I met a guy
named Uli, who ballroom dances. We have made a promise to
each other that the next time we meet, we will dance. This
is why I am currently attending classes and thankful we have
wonderful teachers!
- Many Thanks,

The Japanese movie Shall We Dance has a beautiful line: "Dancing
makes my heart sing." We began dancing in 1978. As we
celebrate our silver anniversary of the joy of dance, we can
honestly state that this wonderful union of music and movement
has brought us much happiness, satisfaction and pleasure --
like a marriage!

To me; the Tango Dance is an all-consuming passion. I love
this dance heart and soul. This came about as a result of
watching the movie "The Tango Lesson" with Sally
Potter & Pablo Veron one night back about 3 years ago.
From the very moment the movie came on - I became glued to
the presentation and fell mad over heels in love with the
movie and the dance itself. Two people dancing the tango is
the ultimate of beauty in motion. As a result of this; I went
to Buenos Aires last November and enjoy it even more so -
to the point of having decided that I will more than likely
seriously consider moving to Buenos Aires when I reach retirement.
The thought of being able to go for a walk in the evenings
to some Milonga - do some dancing or just plain watch others
in motion - and to see some of the professionals dance the
tango is enough to make a grown man cry. Does this sound like
I am just a bit fond of the Tango? I cannot help but feel;
when two people who are passionately in love with the tango
- are dancing the tango - nothing else matters.

Dancing has become a lifestyle for me. While some people choose sedentary activities such as watching television, I would rather be dancing!!! Personally, dancing is a meaningful use of time and is an expression of my self-identity. I feel like I’m soaring whether I am practicing dance steps at home daily, or whether I am enjoying a private weekly dance lesson at Ted Motyka’s Dance Studio. Plus every Friday evening I join new friends with a one-hour dance lesson followed by a dance party until midnight.
The owners and instructors make me feel at home, encourage creativity in a positive atmosphere, and give me the opportunity to achieve new experiences. Dancing has given me greater flexibility, balance, strength, and endurance and more energy. As a recent widow, dancing has increased my level of happiness, joy, and hope. Most important of all, I dance just for the pleasure of it. Dancing is like engaging in life in the fullest – it is socially, physically, intellectually, and emotionally satisfying!!!
